Breaking Generational Patterns and Nurturing Emotional Intelligence
Three years of impact in Delaware.
At Teach Zen, our mission is to provide the early childhood community with the self care tools needed to manage BIG emotions. Increasing the emotional intelligence of our community with social emotional learning (SEL) programming, workforce development, and SEL events and performances.
Emotional wellness is the foundation of lifelong learning. Nearly 1 in 4 children under eight have experienced two or more adverse childhood experiences that can profoundly impact their growth and development. We're committed to changing this narrative.
“I have met extraordinary educators doing their best with limited resources and children whose emotional needs often go unmet.”
A Message From Our Founder
Three years ago, just months after Teach Zen became a 501(c)(3), I walked into a child care center that held a special place in my heart. More than twenty years earlier, I had walked through those same doors as a young mother dropping off my daughter. This time, I returned as the founder of Teach Zen to share a program that had been years in the making.
One Love, One Heart was born from my experiences as an educator, child care owner, and community advocate. When I began reaching out to child care owners throughout Wilmington, they believed in the vision and said yes. I remember shedding tears of joy as we launched our first programs in the 19805 zip code—my own neighborhood—through a partnership with Parent Information Center and Family SHADE.
Since then, Teach Zen has expanded into additional communities across Delaware, bringing social-emotional learning experiences to children, educators, and families through programs like One Love, One Heart, CommuniCare, and Summer of Feelings. What began in a handful of child care centers has grown into partnerships with schools, community organizations, DSCYF, Nemours Children's Health, and funders who share our belief that every child deserves the tools to thrive.
Along the way, I have witnessed both the challenges and the possibilities within early childhood education. I have met educators doing extraordinary work with limited resources and children whose emotional needs often go unmet. Those experiences have only strengthened my commitment to this mission.
The need for social-emotional learning has never been greater, especially in our youngest learners. Teach Zen exists to ensure that children, families, and educators have access to the support, connection, and healing-centered practices they deserve.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
